SD Cross Silhouette Crossbone Gundam X1

Hello all! Today I'm doing a quick review again. This time taking a look at the latest addition to the SD Gundam line, an SD Cross Silhouette. So... what is a Cross Silhouette? The SD Cross Silhouette is the newest iteration of the SD Gundam line. SD Gundam is chibi versions of the scaled model Gundam kits. This time around, however, the line has taken a different turn. These Cross Silhouette figures have two versions to build. The first version is the standard SD form that we are familiar with, the next is a more proportioned SD form. The thing is to get the more proportioned form you'll have to buy the cross silhouette frame which is sold separately. The only kit that comes with it (to my knowledge) is the Rx-78-2 Gundam. So let's go ahead and dive into the Crossbone Gundam X1.

Figure

The build is very straightforward and very simple. Even to the point where you don't need the spur snipers to get the part out. So after a quick build, here is the kit.

The color separation is decent out of the box. Of course, it will need some work to look the best it can but all things considered, it looks great, and a massive improvement to the original SD Crossbone Gundam X1.

Articulation

The head can spin around.

It can also look down but it can't look up.

The shoulders can move a full 360.

The arm can extend out this far thanks to its ball joint.

And because of the ball joint, the arm can rotate all the way around.

Same applies to the fist.

There is minimal waist articulation.

And the legs can extend out about this far.

The legs have these ball joints that allow for slight movement.

The feet have some articulation, but only slightly thanks to the ball joint.

The backpack can fold up thanks to these hinges.

Accessories

We get the one beam gun.

A beam sword.

And by combing parts of the weapons together, you get a larger beam rifle.

Gimmicks

A very well appreciated and welcomed gimmick to this model is the eyes.

Start by removing the helmet.

The take off the top part of the head.

Then turn it around to reveal the serious or traditional Gundam eyes.

Then just put the eyes and the helmet back on, and you're good to go!

I'm super glad Bandai did this, makes it less of a hassle when choosing which eyes you want to go with.

And for the last gimmick to the Crossbone Gundam, the mouth can open up.

Nothing like making it airborne thanks to the Tamashii Act IV stand.

Comparisons

Time for the size comparisons!

Here it is next to the original SD Crossbone Gundam from 2001 in the from the SD G Generation F line.

Misc

What is an SD without and stickers?

Final thoughts/Critiques

The Cross Silhouette is a massive step up from the 2001 kit, from articulation to the stickers. Where the 2001 kit is 90% stickers, the newer one looks pretty good without stickers. My only real complaint about this is that the articulation is pretty limited. While It is an SD, I guess I can't fault it too much. If anything it makes me really want to buy the frame. I have an idea down to road to convert this mass production Flint from the Crossbone Manga. Maybe one day.

Hope you enjoyed this quick review. Till next time
