HGUC Zaku II FZ

Hello everyone! Time for another review! Today we are talking about hamburgers. More specifically, we are talking about the Zaku II FZ, the protagonist mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam 0080.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 was the first Gundam OVA, being six episodes, I recomend watching it if you haven't, one of the best Gundam OVAs and one heck of a Christmas special. But let us talk about this HGUC. This particular model kit came out in 2008. And has been a kit I've been wanting to get for a long time. Just like the previous review, I can't really comment on the color or the nub marks and so on, or rather hold it against the figure for model kits can be modified and so on, however I can mention them for the straight builders and rate based off of structure and so on.

So first of all, lets look at the figure.

Over all, it is a Zaku II, and the design from 0080 comes out pretty well. Let's move on to articulation.
The arms can rotate all the way around.
They can also go out this far. Do take note however, the side with the spike shoulder pad can not come out as far as the one with the shield due to the design.
However, you can move the spiked shoulder pad to give better range of articulation.
The arm can rotate around.

The elbows can bend this far.
The hands are on ball joints.

The head is on the standard bandai ball joint, meaning it can, in theory, rotate all the way around, however, due to the Zaku design, the head can't go all the way around.
However, it does have a chicken neck joint.

Moving down to the waist, it can spin around about this far. However do keep in mind, due to the Zaku design, it is limited. The tubes do keep its articluation down.
We also get an ab crunch.

Before we leave the upper body entirly, the sheildon the arm can move up and down.
As well it can rotate until it catches itself.
We already talked about the spiked shoulder pad, it is limited but it can move slightly.
Back down to the lower body. Starting with the skirt, the side panels can come out this far.
As well the entire back section of the skirt can move back about this far.

On the flip side, the front of the skirt can come up this far.
And with that the leg can stretch this far out.
We can go a little more.
The knee can bend this far.
The ankle can move as so.

And that just about does it for articulation.

Moving on to assessories.

We have a trigger finger and a fist.
 And an open hand.
So this hand is something special.
Basically, this hand plays a role in the anime, more of an iconic pose.
But before we get into the iconic pose, lets back track to articulation. So this Zaku has a bit more articulation going on in the waist. Basically, with some Bandai engineering, the Zaku can sit.
Thus reinacting the iconic scene from 0080.

The next assessory is the heat hawk, and iconic weapon of the Zaku.
And you can put it in hand as so.
And then you shout "Die Feddie Sum!"
When you're done killing Feddies, you put this adapter on the heat hawk.
Then plut it into the back.
Next we have the machine gun.
Now the machine gun isn't the standard Zaku II machine gun, rather, it is a different version made for this particular Zaku II.
And it plugs in like so.
And some nice poses.

And last but not least, we have hand grenades.
They attach here.
And last, we have a few extra parts to build the kit with a different head.

So with that, lets kind of talk about some issues I've had with this kid.

The first issue was a bit of the articulation. While it exactly ancient, it is 10 years old as of this review. As well having built a few recent kids, I'm a little too use to some modern articulation, so I was going to for lack of a better word complain about the articulation, but then it hit me, why not look at some kits from the same era of 2008, such as the HGUC Sazabi. Which came out in 2008, and is the kit releaesd right after this one.
As mentioned above, the elbow can only bend so far.
Same with the Sazabi.
Then I thought how about a Zaku that came out in 2010. The Zaku II F2.
Well, same thing.
Even the knee bends are similar.
So with that I can't really fault articulation from 2008. While not today's standards, it is pretty good.
But I do have some faults.
The first fault is, the right leg pipe, it just pops off when I bend the leg.
If I had any other real complaint, I wish it came with more hands, if anything just another fist.

So size comparisons.
You saw how big it was compaired to the Sazabi, but how about to other Zakus?
And here it is from the GM Space Type from the same series.
So, it is a pretty average sized kit.

So over all, this kit is pretty good. While the accessories are a bit limited, it is show accurate. Most of the enginnerring went towards the sitting gimmick. Which I can understand and glad they did it. In terms of nubs and seam lines, while I have seen worse, I'm sure any one willing to customize and paint this kit up and get rid of those pesky nubs and seams just like that .There aren't many and I would imagine they aren't hard to remove. Articulation while not on today's standard, it works, and heck if it matches the Sazabi, then who am I to complain. So over all, I recoomend this kit, even with its messed up pipe.

Till next time.
